Dre's Take on Wellness: 3 Simple Self-Care Rituals

What does the term "Wellness" mean to you? There's a lot of hype around the word these days. It's almost become a stereotype the beauty and health industry uses.
Always do more. Worker smarter AND harder. Commit to do better every minute of every day to achieve your goals.
Our CEO Andrea Nucete-Elliott has a different take.
"To me, wellness is all internal, and it's actually quite simple," she says.
Instead of overloading yourself trying to fit someone else's idea of what wellness should be, Dre advocates for three simple yet powerful rituals that will have you feeling like a champion, minus the complexity.
1) Monthly Me-Time to Relax and Recharge
Self-care doesn’t have to take huge chunks of your time and energy. Dre's first recommendation is pretty straightforward: schedule a facial or massage every month.
Imagine this is a standing appointment with yourself. Keep it, even when life is hectic around you and your attention is always in demand.
Never underestimate how important it is to dedicate time exclusively to yourself. Pause, relax, disconnect, and clear your mind.

How to make the most of your relaxation time:
- Put your phone and laptop on “Do Not Disturb” mode.
- Commit to being fully present during this time—no multitasking or thinking about tomorrow’s to-do list.
Can't make it to a professional spa? Break out the lavender oil and your favorite moisturizing face mask in the privacy of your own home. Add some calming music and some cucumber-infused water for a real DIY spa experience. Set the timer for one hour and calm your nerves.
2) Read One Book a Month to Feed Your Mind
Dre’s second self-care ritual is simple: read one book every month.
Of all the ways we consume content these days, a book is the one that makes Dre happiest. Grab one off the shelf and dive in. Expand your horizons and give your brain a detox.
Screens offer endless benefits but also limitless distractions. This analog activity provides something our digital-filled lives need—a rare chance to disconnect from the screen and reconnect with your thoughts.

Think of it as cross-training for your mind.
How to start your reading ritual:
- Choose books that inspire or challenge you, like memoirs, self-development guides, or even beautifully written fiction.
- Dedicate 15–30 minutes a day, maybe as part of your morning routine or before bed.
- If you’re struggling with commitment, join a book club or ask a friend to read the same book for accountability.
Not sure where to begin? Just pick one. Pick any book lying around and start reading to take the mental gymnastics out of the process.
3) Build a Routine for Your Body and Mind
Last but not least, Dre's wellness trifecta includes a beauty and health routine that's more than skin deep.
Make yourself unstoppable from the inside out.
Creating and sticking to a wellness routine is good for you in many practical ways, but it also brings a sense of joy and accomplishment. It's something for you to be proud of that's just for you.
Start with your hair health.
Andrea's homemade rosemary hair oil recipe will strengthen your hair from the roots and keep your scalp healthy, helping your hair grow stronger.

Mind your fitness too.
Even when you're busy, tired, or stressed, make staying fit a priority. Dre recommends focusing on workouts you enjoy and can get excited about. Find what works for you and stick to it.
- Pick the gym that's closest to your house. That'll make it easier for you to get there on days when things go off schedule.
- Have workout equipment at home, even if it's just a yoga mat and a stretchy band.
- Invest in workout gear that fits and supports you to prevent injuries and help you reach your max.
Pro tip: Keep a TIY Pro Pack in your gym bag so you can use a strand that fits your mood.
4 Tips to Fall in Love with the Grind
The key to this wellness step is to create a habit, not a chore to tick off the list. When you feel good about the time you spend on yourself, it becomes something you look forward to and can make a part of your life.
