TIY (Tie It Yourself) has the raw materials for you to make your own hair tie headband that’s both comfy and cute. You may already know that TIY products were dreamt up by professional athletes and are used by professional athletes and Olympians.

Our one-of-a-kind hair ties are made with durable, soft material and can be customized for any hair type. That’s the awesome versatility part. What’s even more awesome is that you can go above and beyond the knot and create new versions of your favorite hair ties. Let’s get creative!

Headband Hair Ties

A lot of people with bob-length hair or even super short hair may think that hair ties aren’t for them. But, remember bangs? Plus those cute layers have to be pulled back somehow. Anyway, even without a luscious mane of hair, you need a practical and reliable way to get your hair off your face. Headband hair ties are an easy way to use a product you love and get the results you need.

Here are some of our best ideas, all of which can be achieved with TIY hair ties.

How to Make a Headband

A hair tie headband can easily be achieved, with the TIY elastic either visible or invisible beneath fabric. All you need is a measured length of fabric. Seal the ends off—either by sewing or with fabric glue—so they don’t fray. You can insert the TIY strand at the bottom of the headband (that part that goes above your neck). Play with the dimensions so it sits snug against your head and won’t slip around while you go about your day. Patterns, colors and style? Sky’s the limit!

How to Make Sports Headbands

TIY sells hair ties for athletes… and everyone else, of course! We often sell packages of TIY hair ties as end of season sports team gifts or even as part of color-coordinated sports team accessories. So fun! But for the short haired girls on your team, or just for the ones who want their hair pulled back extra tight, you can follow the same process as a regular fabric headband but sub in athletic fabric. Usually, this will be some kind of stretchy, breathable fabric that keeps the sweat and hair out of your face!

How to Make a Bandana Headband

Bandana hair bands aren’t just for girls who love retro styles. From face masks to neck ties, bandanas are really popular. You can make a bandana headband that encircles your entire head or double it up for a thick hair tie. Simply use a single TIY hair tie (unlooped) and roll the bandana around it. For a permanent hair tie accessory, you can sew or glue it off. The TIY is the secret weapon to give your fabric bandana headband some give. This makes it a lot stronger and capable of holding your hair while you move around.

How to Make a Flower Crown Headband

Want to get whimsical? A flower crown headband is an adorable idea… that will instantly fall apart after you ‘gram it. Unless, that is, you have a little structure to it. A TIY hair band is the perfect missing ingredient to your ultimate flower child look. There are a few options, but one is to weave a long section of our soft and durable TIY hair product in and out of the molded part of your flower crown. This can serve the dual purpose of securing the flowers and giving some tension that ensures your crown doesn’t go flying off or fall off. Love it.
